SYNOPSIS
It is Austria, 1938, and the exuberant, free-spirited Maria is advised by Nonnberg Abbey’s Mother Abbess to head out into the world to help her decide whether she truly wants to become a nun. Maria steps into the position of governess for the widowed Austro-Hungarian Navy submarine Captain Georg von Trapp’s seven children who have been lacking a mother-figure in their life. During her time with the von Trapp family, they are faced with multiple challenges – from Captain von Trapp defying the commission in the German Navy and facing a Nazi threat to the love as innocent as the Edelweiss itself blossoming between Maria, who vowed to become a nun and Captain von Trapp, who is engaged to Baroness Elsa Schraeder; from Maria having to win over the children’s hearts to the Captain’s authoritarian and almost militaristic approach to raising his children – and with Maria’s help, the broken family is restored with love, respect, joy – and the sound of music.

CREATIVE TEAM AND CAST
Under the masterful hand of three-time Tony Award-winning director Jack O’Brien, the latest revival of the iconic The Sound Of Music has been fine-tuned to perfection. If The Sound Of Music wasn’t one of your Favorite Things before, it will for certain be now!
The new revival of The Sound Of Music features star-actress Cayleigh Capaldi as the gorgeous Maria, the accomplished Kevin Earley as Captain Georg von Trapp, powerhouse Christiane Noll as Mother Abbess, Nicholas Rodriguez as Max Detweiler, Kate Loprest as Baroness Elsa Schraeder, Ariana Ferch as the young Liesl von Trapp, and Ian Coursey as Rolf, among others.
The wonderful, stellar cast carries the iconic music with command, embodies the different characters with perfection, and oozes professionalism and talent – from the oldest nun right down to little Gretl von Trapp.
HISTORY AND LEGACY
Inspired by the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story Of The Trapp Family Singers, a brand new musical that addresses a gritty reality and adversity among beauty, saw the light in 1959. With the masterful book by playwrights Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, music and lyrics by musical theatre heavyweights Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and direction by Vincent J. Donehue, The Sound Of Music premiered in 1959 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway after some trial runs at smaller venues. The production was an instant triumph, knocking all expectations out of the water, and saw 1,443 performances before closing in 1963.
Since then, there have been numerous revivals on Broadway and London’s West End, countless productions around the globe, as well as a critically acclaimed film adaptation featuring Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as Captain Georg von Trapp. The film was also met with raving reviews, landing no less than five Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards among many others, and went on to become one of the greatest films of all time.
