“‘The Outsiders’ will leave you breathless, hopeful, and aching for something more.” – BroadwayWorld

This one will make you sit up and take notice. It will break your heart, stitch it back together again, and break it again. It will curl up between your ribs with its themes of violence, addiction, depression, socio-economic struggles, and teen angst. It will steal your heart with its slight Americana-tuned sounds and folk-tinged tunes; it will send you on a trip of nostalgia with its retro-classic roots; it will rip you to shreds with its powerful visual vignettes and stirring choreography; it will warm your soul with its timeless storyline and rich vocal deliveries; and it will remain with you for many years to come.

A new song for the misfits is being sung on Broadway, and now, the entire North America – and it is a song that must be heard by everybody at least once, and even two, three times!

SYNOPSIS

Tulsa, 1967, is divided between two rival teenage gangs based on their socio-economic status, making it increasingly difficult for Greaser Ponyboy Curtis to make the big dreams he has for himself come true. At a drive-in theatre where the tensions rise, the Greasers are protecting two Soc-girls who are unbothered by the Greasers’ social status, leading to an ambush by a group of Socs. One of the Socs attempts to drown Ponyboy, leading to a point-of-no-return and rather shocking moment, in turn, resulting in heightened tension.

The question is though, will the Greasers be able to stand up for themselves against the socially privileged Socs; and ultimately, will Ponyboy be able to escape from his circumstances?

The Outsiders: A New Musical is without a doubt one of the most aesthetically impactful, emotionally moving, no holds barred, and compelling productions today – and is a must-see for everybody.

CREATIVE TEAM

At the root of every good musical production is a fantastic book – and few can outdo the one Adam Rapp wrote, based on S.E. Hinton’s 1967 novel. With exceptional book contributions, music, lyrics, musical supervision, orchestration, and arrangements by Justin Levine, and music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival’s Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance, it is little wonder that The Outsiders: A New Musical is fast on its way to becoming one of Broadway’s most sought-after productions.

The North American tour production is headed up by a world-renowned creative team, featuring the talents of director Danya Taymor (John Proctor is the Villain, Thérèse Raquin, Trophy Boys), choreographers Rick Kuperman (Life & Trust, Dicks: The Musical, Caught Stealing, Silent Retreat, Living With Yourself) and Jeff Kuperman (The Last Five Years, Life & Trust, Alice by Heart, Cyrano, Dicks: The Musical), scenographer Tatiana Kahvegian, costume designer Sarafina Bush, lighting designer Brian MacDevitt, sound designer Cody Spencer, projection designer Hana Kim, musical supervisor and co-orchestrator Matt Hinkley, music director Remy Kurs, and music coordinator Kristy Norter.

“More pulse-pounding than anything else on Broadway.” – Time Out

HISTORY & LEGACY

The Outsiders: A New Musical is the brainchild of writer Adam Rapp and Justin Levine. It is the second stage adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s 1967 popular coming-of-age literature-staple, and the very first musical based on this iconic tale of haves and have-nots. The production premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego in February 2023, and was met with massive critical acclaim. The production debuted on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in April 2024, and has been on tour since fall 2025.

The Outsiders: A New Musical has been incredibly successful in both box-office and in terms of awards, racking up no less than four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, an Outer Critics Circle Award, two Drama Desk Awards, a Theatre World Award, and a Chita Rivera Award, among plenty of nominations, including a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theatre Album

THE PANTAGES THEATRE HOLLYWOOD

Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles, on 2633 Hollywood Boulevard in the Hollywood neighborhood, just a stone’s throw from Hollywood and Vine, you’ll find the Pantages Theatre – one of the nation’s most legendary and adored live entertainment venues.

The B. Marcus Priteca-designed venue, featuring a stunning Art Deco design with an ersatz stone exterior, Egyptian lotus patterns, sculptured goddesses, and a barbed supported marquee. The gorgeous forecourt boasts a lavish gold, silver, and bronze-decorated starburst ceiling; the lobby features three Moderne frosted chandeliers hanging from star-shaped domes and carpeted stairways; and the stunning auditorium a wide proscenium with three painted panels above. The most breathtaking of all, however, is the Art Deco decorations on the venue’s double ceiling, featuring frosted glass and a bronze chandelier.

The Pantages Theatre opened in 1930 and was primarily used as a movie theatre, but since 1977, it has been the home of some of the most successful and renowned large-scale productions to the likes of The Lion King, Hamilton, and Wicked. The Pantages Theatre is currently one of Los Angeles’ highest-grossing live entertainment venues.

Apart from its rich history and gorgeous design, the Pantages Theatre also has some of the best sound and lighting systems on offer, pin-drop acoustics, some of the best views of the stage you’ll find anywhere, and amenities that cater for every want and need. The theatre boasts luxurious seating for up to 2,703 patrons, spread across an orchestra floor and mezzanine.

“‘The Outsiders’ is at times overly, achingly sad, sometimes curiously staid, and always feeling in debt to something bigger. It is, I suppose, the feeling of a classic, done up for the present.” – The Guardian
