The Lion King production has broken several records and won numerous awards. The original Broadway production was directed by Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor. The musical’s storyline follows the book by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi. Meanwhile, the show’s extremely popular score was written by Grammy Award winner Elton John in cooperation with lyricist Tim Rice. One day, Simba escapes from his babysitter Zazu and encounters some nasty hyenas. As Simba tries to scare away the outcasts with his roar, he is saved by King Mufasa, whose roar is so loud and powerful that it makes all the hyenas run away. Mufasa’s evil brother Scar, realizing he could use the cub as bait, makes a mischievous plan with his army of hyenas. Will Scar successfully steal the kingdom from Mufasa? The Lion King, the musical, is produced by Disney Theatrical Productions. The original show opened in Minneapolis in 1997, followed by the Broadway production a few months later. After premiering in New York, The Lion King opened in London’s West End two years later.
