THE PLOT

This story is narrated by Greek God Hermes who introduces us to the challenging lives of Orpheus and Eurydice. Stricken by a harsh season and famine, Eurydice longs for relief from starvation. Orpheus is in love with Eurydice and asks to marry her. However, Eurydice has her doubts and doesn’t want to live in poverty anymore. Tempted by promises from Hades about work opportunities in Hadestown. When Hades goes to pick up Persophone from the world above, Eurydice follows them to the underworld in hopes to work in the factories that Persophone has been complaining about. THE CREATIVE TEAM & CAST 

Hadestown is a masterpiece by Anais Mitchell who wrote the book, music and lyrics. The production was originally directed by Tony nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Rachel Chavkin with additional direction by Keenan Tyler Oliphant for the Broadway revival. Meanwhile, the original choreography was spearheaded by David Neumann with new choreography from T. Oliver Reid. The production also included some incredible work from designers David Arsenault on scenic, Tony nominee Michael Krass on costume, and Aja Jackson on lighting.  

The stellar cast also comprises some of the most incredible talents in theater. Nickolaus Colon is Hades, Megan Colton is Eurydice, Jose Contreras is Orpehus, Jaylon Crump as Hermes, and Namisa Mdlalose Bizana as Persephone. The Fates are played by Katelyn Crall, Mirian Navarette, and Alli Sutton.

After mounting its Broadway Production, Hadestown acquired a ton of accolades. In 2019, the musical won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Direction of a Musical. Over at the Drama Desk Awards, Hadestown bagged four Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Director of a Musical. Other notable awards include a Drama League Award, six Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. In London, Hadestown bagged a Laurence Olivier nomination for Best Musical Revival and two Whatsonstage Awards.
