Some Like It Hot at Hollywood Pantages Theatre

Set in Chicago during Prohibition when jazz music was all the rage, "Some Like It Hot" draws similarities to another award winning Broadway show, Chicago. Jazz elements enhance the entire show as the main characters, Joe and Jerry, are struggling musicians working to survive on speakeasy gigs. Their lives face a comical turn turn of events when they witness a gangster committing a crime in their mob-controlled venue and need to begin cross-dressing to protect their identities as new criminal targets. 

Joe takes on the persona of Josephine, while Jerry transforms into Daphne and the two join an all-female swing band. The band's singer Sugar Kane becomes a challenging part of their tale as the two men hope to earn her affection without blowing their cover. The journey each character faces many tests of their strengths and teaches them unexpected lessons about themselves. 

If the story sounds familiar, it's because "Some Like It Hot" is a Broadway adaptation of the 1959 film of the same name, which starred film icons Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. The film itself was based on the 1953 French movie Fanfare of Love and has since become one of the most prominent movies in American cinema. The movie won three Golden Globe Awards and one Academy Award and was among the first class of 25 films chosen by the US National Film Registry to preserve for future generations.

The movies widespread success led it to become the inspriation for the 1972 Broadway show "Sugar", and multiple theatre productions in the 1990s, and eventually, the 2022 Broadway adaptation. Audiences can't get enough of the show and hurry to secure tickets for performances at Hollywood Pantages Theatre and others across the country. "Some Like It Hot" features music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Marc Wittman, the creative minds behind other hit musicals like "Hairspray" and "Catch Me If You Can." 

The production includes dazzling dance numbers and catchy songs like "I'm California Bound," "Baby, Let's Get Good," and "Zee Bap." The original Broadway cast earned a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for their recording of the show's soundtrack.
