Moulin Rouge – The Musical at Hollywood Pantages Theatre

In the first stages of its conception, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to take on the challenge of exceeding or at minimum being at equal footing with the previous movie produced before it. The musical's current success tells us that the Broadway stage adaptation has become one of Broadway's treasures with repeated standing ovations from viewers all over the world. The musical's narrative itself is a fresh retelling of the 2001 film about Christian and Satine, an American composer travels to Montmartre to jumpstart his career as a writer and composer, and a performer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. Christian and Satine begin a secret affair as they get closer to each other, and it is in their affair that they face challenges that at many times seem insurmountable, though fate continues to bring them closer together.

In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the full play, this story is presented mostly through song, with incredible musical scoring from the creative team, which is a blend of mash-ups, medleys, and even classical numbers. Manchester Media Group stated that the musical is “an audio and visual masterpiece that translated beautifully on stage.” From choreography to the jawdropping musical accompaniments, the musical’s intensity reveals itself; plus the fact that even the cast is composed of singer heavyweights such as Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo leading the title roles of Christian and Satine and you have another Broadway gem on your hands.
