The award-winning set design helps transport audiences into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Once the curtains open, everyone is hit with an air of nostalgia that you just can't find in any of the other plays on tour or on Broadway. There's a bit of an adjustment phase to get used to seeing other actors playing some of these legendary characters. J.K. Rowling herself mentioned that when she first saw Harry Potter and The Cursed Child LIVE it was emotional for her to see Professor Snape, the character, with his back to the audience and feeling like she would see the late Alan Rickman's face when he turned around. There could be those highly emotional moments for you as well on this Saturday night if you're a huge fan of the franchise.
Ultimately, the story being told on stage and the way that the background plays into everything it allows audiences to adapt their eyes a bit. When you get to the climax of the plot, you're looking at "Harry Potter" as the character without expecting to see Daniel Radcliffe. Know ahead of time, that you're in for a roller coaster of emotions with Harry Potter and The Cursed Child. This ride is much more exciting than anything that you can be a part of at Universal Studios. Perhaps what makes this production so impactful is that it remains faithful to the tone of the books. It would've been a complete mistake to try and turn this into a full-on musical to compete with something like The Lion King. Most audiences would've seen right through it. Harry Potter isn't a musically led movie, and therefore, a story within this world in a theater shouldn't be either.
It's essential to choose the right seat for this show at Hollywood Pantages Theatre. A lot of work has gone into that set design to make crowds believe that they are truly boarding a train at Platform 9 at Kings' Cross for you to be blind to those details! Finding a seat toward the middle of the theater in a row that's maybe a little elevated could be the best option. People are running to see Harry Potter and The Cursed Child live. Don't be one of those folks who missed out because they didn't hit that get tickets button fast enough. Go now; worry about everything else later.
