Harry Potter and The Cursed Child at Hollywood Pantages Theatre

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the brainchild of Jack Thorne and showing in Los Angeles this summer. He authored the original play with some help from the original series’ author J.K. Rowling and beloved theater director John Tiffany. The original Jack Thorne script initially only contained a humble two acts. But the creators expanded it to four for an all-consuming dramatic sensation that audiences would never forget.

This Harry Potter play adaptation begins when Albus Potter meets Scorpios Malfoy on their way to Hogwarts. While Albus struggles to live up to his father’s heroic reputation, Scorpios fumbles with his own biased distinction as a death eater’s offspring or the circulating rumors of being Voldemort’s child. 

Each character faces relatable coming-of-age challenges like molding a sense of self beyond their patriarchs’ identities and correcting the previous generation’s sins. They hope to craft a better future for themselves and their cohorts. Their method involves manipulating a time turner so that they can return to the past and keep Cedric Diggory — one of Voldemort’s targets — alive. 

Can altering the past correct the damages of the present? Or will it make things worse for the imprudent pair? The Harry Potter play promises to answer these questions during its nearly three-hour runtime. The audience can grab refreshments and hydrate during a brief intermission at the performance’s half-way point.
