Titled after the superstar's iconic folk hit, Girl from the North Country premiered in 2017, opening at The Old Vic theater before transferring to London's West End. The limited run was a huge success, stealing three wins from the Laurence Olivier Awards.
The production then reached an American audience at the Public Theatre, New York, in late 2018. Here, it won an esteemed Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical. The following year, the show finally performed on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre. Despite the abrupt cancellation due to the global pandemic, it was nominated seven times at the Tony Awards, earning a Best Orchestrations win.
